Kinnaur – Lahaul - Spiti : Where the Himalayas whisper stories

10 Nights / 11 DaysCustomize Yours

In the far northeastern corner of Himachal Pradesh lie the tribal gems of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti, where the magic of the Trans-Himalayas unfolds. Touched by the Tibetan Plateau, this remote yet enchanting region remains a dream for both mountain lovers and adventure seekers. Though nature often makes the terrain tough and some routes remain closed in parts of the year, its beauty never fails to call travelers. Here, Hindu traditions bloom in Kinnaur, while Buddhist culture shines in Lahaul-Spiti, creating a unique spiritual blend in the daily life of the warm Himachali people.

Guarded by the mighty Mt. Kinner Kailash, the sacred seat of Lord Shiva, Kinnaur welcomes travelers with its pure Himalayan charm. Be it the serene Nako Lake, the rich green Sangla Valley, the distant village of Chitkul near the Indo-China border, or the spiritual calm of Bhimakali Temple—Kinnaur offers a new joy at every step. Its blooming fields, endless apple orchards, and friendly Kinnauris create a land where nature and soul meet in quiet harmony.

Lahaul and Spiti, known as the “Middle Land,” are remote Himalayan regions where adventure meets serenity. These dramatic highlands, once closed to outsiders, now welcome explorers with open arms. Lying between Tibet and India, this semi-desert zone sees little rain but holds great treasures. The two valleys—Lahaul and Spiti—are divided by the majestic Kunzum Pass. From the shimmering Chandratal Lake, the mystical Pin Valley, and the ancient Dhankar Monastery to the world’s highest post office in Hikkim and the iconic Manali-Leh Highway, this trail offers a rare and unforgettable Himalayan journey.

Soon, we will set out on a scenic drive to Sangla Valley, where majestic mountains, whispering pines, and the crystal-clear Baspa River will paint an unforgettable picture. A short, tasteful lunch break at a quaint Sangla hotel will offer us both rest and delight. But the real adventure will unfold as we travel to Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border. This dreamlike hamlet, wrapped in silence and snow-kissed peaks, will invite us to sip hot tea while soaking in its ethereal beauty. By evening, we will return to Sangla for our scheduled night stay, carrying with us the spirit of the mountains, beneath the stars.

Kinnaur Kailash. We’ll check into our hotel, then pause for a delectable lunch. With renewed energy, we’ll set off to discover the historic charm of Kamru and Sapni Fort, timeless guardians of the valley's story. Later, as the sun begins its descent, we’ll embrace the serenity of the Hu-Bu-Lan-Kar monastery, soaking in the soft, golden light that bathes the hills. We shall stand still and marvel, knowing that, according to ancient lore, it was here Lord Indra arrived on his chariot to take Yudhishthira to heaven after the Kurukshetra War. Revered as sacred, many still avoid dipping their feet in its crystal waters. The journey shall stretch across the dramatic Kunzum Pass, each turn revealing awe-striking vistas, until we reach the breathtaking village of Sissu—a land of snow dreams, celestial night skies, and landscapes that stir the soul.
